Seven glass-fiber cows with harlequin coats are peacefully grazing not far from the ancient furnace of Pievasciata. The windows of the stone and terra-cotta house, so typical of the Chianti region, open onto a sandy Zen garden; on the background, the magic scenery of Chianti, with gentle hills and Siena’s roofs in the distance. Piero Giadrossi and his wife Rosalba are the patrons of this surprising rural setting, where their dream has come true: a perfect synergy between nature and contemporary art. Several artists from all over the world gathered here to leave a sign of their art. The Park “Sculture del Chianti” opened in 2004 after developing like a new landscape in the middle of a small wood, a few kilometers from Siena. Giadrossi travelled around the world to discover young little known artists, who came to Pievasciata and explored the surroundings, looking for the most appropriate corner for their work of art. After three years, the park managed to house twenty-four works in stones and iron, wood and resin, glass and steel, that merge with brushwood. The Chianti region is a never-ending surprise: Tuscany lovers come here for its wine and its gentle hills, for olive oil and tranquility, for charming small hilltop villages, and here is an amazing discovery: an art game, a peaceful haven where contemporary man is still working, with new means, around a perfect landscape.
