Arezzo , which has ancient Etruscan origins, was the birth place of many artists who embellished the town with their precious works of art along the centuries. To be mentioned above all Piero della Francesca, whose works are mainly held in the Cathedral (Duomo), and in the Basilica di San Francesco, with its cycle of frescoes depicting the History of the True Cross. Vasari, the well-known artist and architect, also lived in Arezzo. Today the town is famous for its furniture production and antiques restoration, and the first week-end of each month its main Square, Piazza Grande, is the theatre of a picturesque Antique Market. Every year the same square also hosts Giostra del Saracino’ a Medieval tournament which bring the town back to its ancient fasts.
