The town of Naples lies on the Bay of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius watching over in the distance. The town has ancient Roman origins and played a key role in the merging of Greek culture into the Roman society. In the area around Naples there are many Greek and Roman ruins, and the town itself boasts beautiful architecture dating back to the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. Among the main monuments, to be noted the ancient castle of Castel Nuovo (also known as Maschio Angioino), and the beautiful Gothic Cathedral. Not far from the main square, Piazza del Plebiscito, is Teatro San Carlo, the oldest and largest opera house in Italy. Naples is a the ideal destination for having a seaside holiday yet at the same time discovering the many interesting sights of the region, such as the volcano Vesuvius, the ruins of Pompeii and Ercolano, the charming Amalfi Coast, the islands of Ischia and Capri, the cosmopolitan town of Sorrento. The traditional cuisine of the area is excellent, and includes fish specialties, “caprese salad” with delicious Mediterranean tomatoes and mozzarella, and pizza, off course. See below a list of our holiday apartments and villas both in and around Naples, some of them with bathing jetties stretching out into the clear blue sea.
